American country music star Luke Bryan has tested positive for COVID-19.
The singer, who also appears as a judge on American Idol, revealed the news in a tweet where he confirmed the diagnosis would force him to miss time on the reality show with immediate effect.
He tweeted: “I’m sad to say I won’t be a part of tonight’s first live @AmericanIdol show. I tested positive for COVID but I’m doing well and look forward to being back at it soon.”
The news comes after a surge of media activity across the United States promoting both season 19 of American Idol and the deluxe version of his latest album, Born here Live Here Die Here, which was released last Friday. He appeared on American TV screens in person talking to chat-show host Jimmy Kimmel and also performed.
Bryan, who lives in Nashville with his wife and two sons, is due to begin his spring 2021 tour next month, but hasn’t promoted the event in any way, leading to speculation that he may be about to postpone the tour for future dates.
