Deacon Frey, son of the late Glenn Frey, has announced he is leaving The Eagles.

He stepped in to his father’s role in the band following the death of Frey in January 2016, at the age of 67.

The Eagles stunned fans in 2017 when Deacon Grey and Vince Gill joined the band, making their debut that July alongside Don Henley, Timothy B. Schmit and Joe Walsh.

In a statement released on social media, the band said: “Deacon Frey has devoted the past 4 1/2 years to carrying on his father’s legacy and, after some weeks of reflection, he now feels at it is time for him to forge his own path.

“We understand, completely, and we support him in whatever he wishes to pursue in the years ahead.”
